PVO specializes in single vision and hard to fit contact lenses. These include (but are not limited to) daily wear, one-day lenses, and multi-focal (bi- and tri-focal) lenses in both soft and gas-permeable lenses. We also fit hard and soft toric lenses for astigmatism, as well as lenses for corneal diseases such as keratoconus and after corneal transplant surgery.

New technology in the contact lens field includes the introduction of silicone hydrogel contact lenses. These soft contacts allow for much greater oxygen transmission to the eye than previous generations of soft lenses. This benefit translates into greater all-day comfort and decreased redness on the part of the wearer. Several brands of these silicone lenses with varying disposal times are already available for patients with nearsightedness or farsightedness. Parameters for silicone lenses that correct for astigmatism will be more widely available in the near future.

Another advance in the contact lens field is the development of the Nike MAXSIGHT lenses by Bausch & Lomb. These lenses, developed for athletes to use in outdoor sports, are available in two tints:
  • Gray-green is for sports played in bright sunlight, where visual comfort is a concern, such as golf and running. The contours of the green on the golf course are more easily recognized and the glare from of bright sunlight is greatly reduced.
  • Amber, is for sports like tennis, soccer, baseball, and football, that require tracking a fast moving ball.
These lenses allow for more comfort, less glare, enhanced contrast and substantially reduced exposure to ultraviolet rays. They are not approved for use in driving.
